In its fourth forecast for the 2024 crop, COCERAL sees the total grain crop in the EU-27+UK at 280.3 mln t

This would be significantly down from the previous forecast of 296 mln t and down from the 294.2 mln t harvested in 2023. Rain and a lack of sunshine during the spring have significantly impacted winter crop production in western Europe, most of all France and Germany. This has added to lower plantings, which had resulted from overly wet conditions during the fall of 2023. Hot and dry weather during pollination have affected spring crop yields in southeastern Europe.

Wheat production (excluding durum) is now expected at 126 mln t, compared to 134.5 mln t in the June forecast and down from 140.3 mln t of last year. The EU-27+UK 2024 barley production is now forecast at 57.6 mln t, down from 59.9 mln t in the previous forecast, but up from 54.8 mln t harvested in 2023. The preliminary EU27+UK corn crop is now seen at 60.3 mln t, down from 64.8 mln t forecast in June and down from the 2023 harvest seen at 64.6 mln t. The EU-27+UK rapeseed crop is forecast at 18.1 mln t (19.4 mln t in the previous forecast), down from last year’s 21.3 mln t.
